Niky, who participated recently in Tango Intervention DC, is putting together a growing group for Tango Panopticon in Richmond, VA. The event will be surveilled by a camera at VCU which also happens to be a live webcam! This is what it was looking at when I visited:

I think a bunch of tangueros done out all in black would look pretty fine animating this star plaza with Argentine Tango! You can visit the web cam site at http://www.vcu.edu/ramcam/cabell.html and you can actually use a java applet to control the camera itself from the webpage.
After dancing for the camera at VCU the Richmond group is going to continue on to tango intervene during the friday night art gallery walk: http://www.firstfridaysrichmond.com …..It should be fine night in Richmond on May First!

Hello Tango Community,
I just wanted to remind everyone to participate in The Richmond Tango Panopticon on Friday May 1st starting at 6:30pm at Shafer Court VCU and traveling along the Art Walk of First Fridays!!! We and other dancers in countries all over the world are celebrating Argentina’s Labor Day with the street dance we all love so much. What better way for Richmond, VA to get on the Tango map than to get out and expose thousands of people to our beautiful dance.
I especially challenge all leaders to come out and participate to assure that all of our lovely ladies get to make part of history be being a part of this event.
Stay tuned for an official map and timeline for this event coming in the near future (Thanks to Marge Burkell and Jude Glass).
Besos,
Niky Davis
Hi Everyone,
The excitement is building and we now have a group from Newport News, VA interested in coming up for the event.
Please note that Marge Burkell who is the originator of the Art Walk portion of the event is available to answer questions via email burkell@comcast.net. She will most likely respond quicker than I due to my job’s crazy schedule this week. I hope to see numbers grow by leaps and bounds over the next few days.
Also, an event schedule for The Richmond Panopticon is on it’s way!!!!
Besos,
Niky
Niky,
Glad to hear it is coming along! Let me know if you have any questions.

OMG!
What a FABULOUS Hit & Run MILONGA we had tonight for the
HISTORIC Tango Panopticon 2009 which coordinated with Richmond’s
First Friday Artswalk!!!
Richmond was represented by over 30 tango dancers who danced five
venues in about 3+ hours and we all had an absolutely WONDERFUL time!
We had people all along our route taking our picture, videotaping our
dancing, and we even had one reporter for Richmond Magazine ask what
the evening was all about! We handed out LOTS of flyers to interested people!
A BIG thanks to EVERYONE that made the night such a SUCCESS!
We should have plenty of video being shared as Ponte, Nathan, V and
myself all taped parts of the evening. Everyone got LOTS of dancing time!
YOU were ALL FABULOUS! Thanks to Jude for helping set up our route and
to Niky who even went the extra mile and coordinated seating for dinner for all of us!!!
Thanks to Joe Ring for DJing the entire evening! The music selection was awesome!
Give yourselves a HUGE round of APPLAUSE!!!!
You ALL deserve it!!!
Salute!
Marge Burkell
